“we make a loving by what we get , But we make a life by what we give”- Winston Churchill
“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” For centuries, it has been told that Happiness is found in helping others.
This Chinese New Year, amidst all the celebrations, the G & L team took a step back from the ordinary to see what they could do for the less fortunate. Together with Bethel Community Service, this year Dr Ganesh was fortunate to be able to sponsor single room flat residents with their Wishlist items from milk powder and diapers to pineapple tarts and love letters. Items in which are considered necessities are considered as luxuries for these residents. Dr Ganesh together with his team spent the afternoon with the folks, engaging in conversations with them, keeping them company.
Through this community engagement, they were able to interact and help others who are underprivileged. Taking part in this charity event was a very nice way of learning from other people, including how they live, how they interact, how they actually survive knowing that they do not have all the needs for survival.
As a Doctor, his work schedule can be so busy and distracting running between operation theatres and clinics, that it can be easy to overlook those in need. Oftentimes, we can be can be so caught up in ourselves that we neglect to be helpful to others.
This Chinese New Year charity service has once again been a testimony to Dr Ganesh’s believe, that truly giving from the heart fills your life with joy and nourishes your soul. It has been his experience that when you’re focused on giving to others you’re less likely to become consumed by your own concerns and challenges. Giving provides an opportunity to look beyond our own world and see the bigger picture
